Sheridan, J. E. – Journal of Biological Education, 1973
Describes the experimental procedures for isolating fungi and demonstrating their tolerance of fungicides such as creosote and organic mercury. (JR)
Descriptors: Biology, Botany, College Science, Laboratory Procedures

Hawcroft, D. M.; Short, K. C. – Journal of Biological Education, 1973
Describes experiments using crude isolated chloroplast fractions which demonstrate some aspects of the photosynthetic light requiring process and a number of factors affecting them. These experiments are suitable for senior high school and college courses in biology. (JR)

Hansell, M. H. – Journal of Biological Education, 1973
Describes a laboratory practical on animal behavior suitable for senior secondary school or university biology classes. Several separate exercises relating to the house building behavior of caddis fly larvae are detailed, together with the time required for preparation. (JR)

Coppage, Jo; Hill, T. A. – Journal of Biological Education, 1973
Experiments conducted on wheat and barley grains to analyze activities of alpha- and beta-amylase enzymes. Gibberellins were used exogenously. Techniques are described in detail. Results on different cultivars revealed that beta-amylase was not an invariable result of imbibition. Techniques employed can be used by school students. (PS)

Dudley, B. A. C. – Journal of Biological Education, 1972
Describes an approach to teaching the Hardy-Weinberg Law in high school genetics class. Instructional procedures used help in developing this concept in broad generalization form rather than merely a mathematical model of a gene pool. (PS)

Heaton, Anne – Journal of Biological Education, 1982
Proposes that biology classes spend more time studying living organisms in the field. Advantages and problems of fieldwork in towns are discussed and suggestions are made to help teachers ensure that classes obtain maximum benefit from their outdoor studies. Instructional strategies and a short list of useful texts are included. (Author/JN)

Journal of Biological Education, 1983
Describes equipment for recording human breathing (stethographs, tambors, spirometers), construction of pooters (pipettes), field exercise on examining epiphyte distribution on tree bark, and vertebrate skeleton models for teaching locomotion. Includes abstract of student research project examining pH on Colpoda encystment and reviews of…
