Bers, Trudy Haffron – Psychology of Women Quarterly, 1980
Returning women were slightly more egalitarian on attitudes toward sex-specific activities and the women's movement. They were significantly more traditional in attitudes toward fundamental differences between sex roles. Results suggest that women returning to school enhance support for feminist beliefs. All treatment combinations successfully reduced both somatic and cognitive anxiety symptoms. The grade point average of experimental subjects was significantly higher than that of no-treatment controls. Findings suggest that early intervention for academic anxiety was beneficial. (Author)

Isolates active ingredients of the coping-skills component: sensory discriminative (SD), motivational affective (MA), and cognitive evaluative (CE) skills. Checks on independent variable manipulation reveal that SD skills are learned and employed, MA skills are already known but refined, and CE skills are largely ignored. (Author)

Counselor ratings were not influenced by counselor gender or subject sex role. Counselor sex role affected the ratings, with both androgynous and feminine counselors rated higher than the masculine counselor. Incongruent androgynous and undifferentiated subjects were more willing to see androgynous and feminine sex-typed counselors. (Author)

A new operationalization of androgyny, the median split technique, differs from the original method in the distribution of scores produced and in the results obtained in two recent studies. Three groups of women--wives with no outside employment, wives employed in non-professional occupations, and wives employed in professional occupations--were administered the Derived Identity Questionnaire and the Bem Sex Role Inventory.
