Sports Medicine. Instructor's Guide, Student's Manual, Student Learning Activities.
Fair, Helena J.
The instructor's guide, the first of three documents in this package, is for a course designed for students investigating the activities within the sports medicine department or considering any of the areas of kinesiology as a career. The material is designed for individualized study and is competency based with educational outcomes stated for each unit. The guide has a list of suggested educational outcomes correlated to the 11 units of instruction. Other contents are answers to learning activities, a basic test for each unit, answers to tests, a competency chart, and 34-item bibliography. The student's manual, the second of the three documents, contains learning objectives, terms and definitions, and information relating to current techniques and practices. A 34-item bibliography is appended. Topics addressed in the instructor's guide and the student's manual are as follows: the basic concepts of wellness and fitness, career opportunities, introduction to anatomy and physiology, body systems, kinesiology, assessment and evaluation of fitness, prevention of disease and injury, nutrition, modalities for rehabilitation, psychology applied to sports and wellness, and emergency situations. The student learning activities (in the last of the three documents) are individualized and designed to encourage the student to read carefully and study the information presented. Each unit has a section for those students desiring projects for more advanced study. (YLB)
