On the Integration of Remote Experimentation into Undergraduate Laboratories--Pedagogical Approach
Esche, Sven K.
International Journal of Instructional Media, v32 n4 p397 Fall 2005
This paper presents an Internet-based open approach to laboratory instruction. In this article, the author talks about an open laboratory approach using a multi-user multi-device remote facility. This approach involves both the direct contact with the computer-controlled laboratory setup of interest with the students present in the laboratory facility and their subsequent interaction with the experimental devices from remote locations. This approach releases some of the spatial, temporal and financial strains that the traditional on site laboratory approach imposes on educational institutions. Here, the author presents a general description of open laboratory approach, as well as benefits and shortcomings of the approach. (Contains 2 figures.)
