Research in Fiber Optics: Implications for Fiber Optics in Vocational-Technical Education. Final Report 1984-85.
Bergen County Vocational-Technical High School, Hackensack, NJ.
This project was conducted to determine the vocational, technical, and scientific skills and knowledge needed to work with the fiber optics applications that are in all areas of technology. A research assistant was hired by the project director to collect data and develop a research base for the project. Information was gathered through a combination of written and verbal contact with members of industry, examination of current research, and analysis of the learning required for the field of fiber optics. As a result of the research, a three-course curriculum (252 hours) outline was developed for Bergen County Vocational-Technical School (New Jersey). The curriculum was based on analysis of typical job responsibilities in the field, and noted a distinction between learning that required college-level preparation and learning that could be presented in a technical education environment. The report includes the curriculum guide for the three courses (Introduction to Modern Electronic Communications, Modern Electronic Communications II, and Introduction to Fiber Optics and Lasers) and an extensive bibliography.
