This handbook is intended to help teachers of pre-employment shop courses in organizing and delivering instruction in both the shop and classroom. Addressed in the guide are the following topics: the instructor's place in the local school organization; the instructor's job (objectives, advisory committees, occupational analysis, shop/classroom and personnel organization, rules and regulations, accident prevention, and requisitions); preparation for teaching (preliminary meetings and conferences, shop organization, objectives and lesson plans, shop management, and learning activities); and teaching plans and devices (stages in teaching, teaching tools, discipline management, classroom routine, plans for work, teaching activity, and records and reports). Appendixes to this guide include a 13-item bibliography, simple inventory system for materials and supplies, information about local multiple-list textbook committees, criteria for selecting textbooks for vocational industrial education, suggestions for teaching with an overhead projector, recommendations for film users, information on management and the accident liability of shop teachers, a discussion of student leadership responsibility, an instructor's check sheet, qualities of a good shop teacher, standards for eye protection in public schools in Texas, and a discussion of first aid and the law.
