Business Education Practices and Trends: A Literature Review. SIDRU Research Report No. 4.
Bujea, Eleanor
The findings of a literature review of business education in Great Britain, the United States, and Canada were as follows: business education will be in greater demand in the high school and it will be extended downward into the elementary school and upward into the postsecondary institutes, especially in the areas of keyboarding and computer literacy; in the subjects of law, economics, marketing, accounting, and consumer education, the content taught needs to be business oriented and it must be taught by individuals qualified in the field of business; computer-assisted instruction (CAI) is extending into all subject areas and should be used as an aid to instruction, with equipment available to business education teachers; business teachers should be involved in inservice education in keyboarding and computer literacy for all teachers, including administrators and consultants; the business education curriculum should be flexible and continuously updated to accommodate new technologies, changing content, and the dynamic nature of business; and teachers of business subjects should have up-to-date industry experience, with cooperative business experience available as inservice education for business teachers. (The document includes 64 references and 52 recommendations in the areas of keyboarding, shorthand, machine transcription, computer literacy, economics, communications, computer applications, work experience, attitudes, handicapped, gifted, curriculum and curriculum development, and teacher development.)
