The Legal Aspects of Foster Care. Instructor's Manual.
Findling, Joseph
One of a series of manuals for the Foster Parent Training Project, this workbook has been developed at Eastern Michigan University to assist instructors in presenting to foster parent trainees information concerning foster parents involvement with courts, legal proceedings, and public and private agencies. In eight sessions foster parents are encouraged to acquire greater understanding of the legal procedures by which children enter foster care and the ways in which courts operate; understanding of their responsibilities and rights under the law and the limits of their authority; and skills in record keeping and in providing testimony in order to assure that the children in their homes receive full protection under the law. An introduction to the instructor's manual is provided. In the lesson material instructions to the instructor are on colored paper. White pages are copies of the trainee manual. Instructor's material on these pages is in red ink. Various related material is appended: information on income tax exemption for foster children, some legal theory, the changing status of foster parents, a memo concerning judical considerations in child care cases, and federal law applying to education for the handicapped.
