English Language Teachers as Program Administrators
Tannacito, Dan J.
TESOL International Association
An administrator, broadly conceived, is a person who has authority to lead and manage people, practices, materials, and policies in an educational unit. Dan Tannacito shows teachers the pathway to becoming English language program administrators (ELPAs) and the myriad benefits they can derive. Most may be surprised to see that they are already on this path because making a difference and changing lives is at the heart of what they do. Administrators go beyond the walls of the classroom to effect the changes that improve policy, practice, and pedagogy. Becoming an ELPA enables a teacher to promote cultural understanding, effect educational change, and grow personally and professionally. This book opens with a Preface, and five chapters as follows: (1) What, Me? An Administrator?; (2) Managing People in English Language Programs; (3) Curriculum and Technology: Balancing Continuity and Change; (4) Administering Evaluation: IEP Placement of Language Students; and (5) Conclusion. References are also included.
