The Child-Care Teacher Aide--A Guide for Teachers.
Cooper, Dorothy B.
Adaptable to individual student needs and the community, this basic curriculum guide is designed for use in initiating and teaching a high school or adult two-year child-care teacher-aide program in vocational education. Four levels of occupations are covered--babysitter, nursery school facilities aide, nursery school teacher aide, and assistant group teacher--with the first three levels being covered in the first year's work, and the fourth level in the second year's work. As emphasis of the curriculum is on actual experience with children rather than on theoretical concepts, the existence of a part-time preschool to serve as a laboratory is suggested, with students participating in the preschool activities in a limited way the first year, and extensively the second. Forty-two study units are presented, each including objectives, student responsibilities, teaching suggestions, and references. The remainder of the guide (100 pages) provides supplementary and sample handout materials, e.g., New Jersey state standards for approval of child care centers, ten representative half-day and full-day child care schedules, cooking recipes for preschool and kindergarten, parent handbook, and various forms.
