Development of Learning Modules for Machine Shop Occupations. Final Report.
Kent, Randall
This final report contains an eight-page narrative and materials/products of a program to produce (the final) sixty-eight individualized machine shop skill tasks modules (and fifty-two master audio tapes for students with serious reading disabilities). The narrative also describes the determination of the vital few skills used by machine tool operators daily (out of 200 skills in the state curriculum guide) and validation of the learning strategy of ninety modules. These results are reported: (1) every skill task in the Machine Shop State Guide has individualized modules available for use in secondary and postsecondary schools; (2) the machine shop industry identified twenty-five psychomotor skills as used daily, thirty-three as used weekly, and eighty-nine as used monthly; (3) thirty-six modules were rated as valid; and (4) a new state guide for machine shop teachers containing 147 skills was developed. Appendixes include procedures followed to produce skill modules and audio tape masters, survey instrument, listings of the modules and master tapes produced, and survey data. The appended tentative articulated guide for machine shop contains performance objectives (in terms of classes of equipment) with a task description and performance criteria and student tracking forms.
