New to Teaching: WebQuests as a Tool to Support Children in Carrying out Research Using Secondary Sources to Answer Their Scientific Questions
Barker, James; Pope, Deborah
Primary Science, n143 p26-28 May 2016
The "working scientifically" strand of the new primary science curriculum for England has re-emphasised the importance of children having opportunities to carry out different types of enquiries to answer their scientific questions. To promote this as an ongoing aim of primary science education, it is equally important for trainee primary teachers to have opportunities to try out different approaches to teaching a variety of types of enquiry in the classroom. This will support their growing confidence and interest beyond their initial training and into their early teaching careers. This article reports on the introduction of a simple WebQuest tool to a year 5 class (ages 9-10) to support an enquiry-based approach to teaching aspects of "Earth and space."
