Seven articles on higher education in Australia are presented, along with two review articles. "Operation Bootstrap--Reflections of a Staff Developer" (Colin Flood Page) offers views on various aspects of college learning and teaching. Findings of a study on student learning through essay-writing are presented in "Essay Planning and Essay Writing" (Dai Hounsell). Factors perceived as affecting learning of second-year college students are reported in "Student Perceptions of Factors Influencing Tertiary Learning" (David Watkins). Student forecasts concerning the future of Australian higher education in the 1980s and 1990s are discussed in "The Future of Higher Education in Australia: Ten Years On" (Terry Hore, Leo H.T. West). Another research report, "The Age Factor in the Prediction of Tertiary Academic Success" (Sun-Mook Hong), considers the predictive power of age in the achievement of behavioral science students. A study of factors involved in the joint development of courses by universities is described in "Collaboration Between Two Universities in Course Development" (G. Gillard and S. Kemmis). Finally, a study in which self-study questions were inserted in the text of lecture notes for external students is discussed in "In-Text Questions: A Note on an Experiment in Instructional Design" (Bronwyn Richardson).
