Linking Basic Skills to Entry-Level Electronics Test Technician Tasks. Instructional Resources. Assessments.
Gaillard, Don; Mostaghel, Debbie
This project first identified the specific mathematics, reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills required of an entry-level electronics testing technician (ETT), using a modified DACUM (Developing a Curriculum) occupational analysis process. This approach involves a panel of expert workers from the electronics industry who analyze and define the essential vocational and basic skills of their jobs. Based on the results of those occupational and basic skills analyses and the application of general review criteria for instructional and assessment resources, lists were drawn up of the most relevant basic skills instructional and assessment tools now available through commercial publishers and vocational research and curriculum development centers. Recommendations were made for instructional emphases and for selecting assessment instruments to evaluate students in the areas of mathematics, listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills. A list of the instructional and assessment instruments reviewed makes up the bulk of this document. For each instructional resource, the title, publisher, copyright date, stated objectives, reading level, type of binding, and cost are given with the opinions of the reviewers included. Vocational assessment instruments are described according to their title, skills they appear to assess, item orientation, level of difficulty, number of items, publisher description, cost, copyright dates, type of scoring, type of administration, time required, reporting format, reliability, and validity. Appendixes to the document contain addresses of publishers and research institutes as well as basic skills linked to ETT tasks. (Author/KC)
