Integrating Deliberative Justice Theory into Social Work Policy Pedagogy
Morrow, Helen
Journal of Social Work Education, v47 n3 p389-402 Fall 2011
Deliberation that upholds the social work values of justice and inclusion is an essential component of the policy-making process; yet most social welfare policy curricula focus instead on the goals of distributive justice. This article presents a model that demonstrates how deliberative justice can be easily incorporated into beginning level social welfare policy classes. Feedback from social work students indicates their understanding of the concepts of deliberative justice presented in a policy class and their appreciation of a class role-play designed to illustrate the implementation of related theory. Social work practitioners at the policy level may also find this model useful. (Contains 3 tables and 1 figure.)
