Southern Regional Education Board, Atlanta, GA. Inst. for Higher Educational Opportunity.
Papers presented at a conference/workshop that focused on the subject of increasing minority representation in the fields of allied health and science are provided. The role of undergraduate education in preparing students for allied health careers and suggestions for curriculum planning and development are given in the first two papers by Mary E. Milliken and Ralph C. Kuhli. These are followed by a presentation on the teaching of communication skills in preparing students for careers in allied health, with emphasis on minority students by William G. Pickens and two papers on consortia arrangements for allied health programs by Phillip H. Bucken and Randal Carter. The remaining papers and authors deal with: (1) selective recruitment of minority students for allied health programs (Eddie Morris); (2) Project Black Awareness - Health Careers (Carolyn Russell); (3) retention through student support programs in science (Carolyn Russell), (3) retention through student support programs in science (Winifred Harris); and (4) supportive services for minority students of sciences (Herman Young).
