An Analysis of Campus Child Care Centers in the State-Supported Colleges and Universities of Florida.
Holdnak, Mildred Walden
Objectives of this master's thesis were to analyze the status of existing day care centers at state supported colleges and universities in Florida in terms of purposes, funding, policies and policy making, staffing, program content for children, training experiences offered to college students and benefits of the center to the sponsoring institution. An additional purpose was to identify the attitudes of college and university administrators toward the establishment of campus child care centers in those institutions where centers did not exist. It was hypothesized that there were no significant differences in the existence of a campus child care center in relation to urban or rural locale, level (university or junior college), student body size, and date established. A 33-item questionnaire was directed to the deans of student affairs or their nearest counterparts. The data sample was composed of the representatives of the 42 campuses which responded to the questionnaire. Chi-square analysis was performed. The null hypothesis was not rejected. Tables describe the sample by level and response, summarize the relations of institutional characteristics and centers, indicate type and source of center funding, give the educational level of directors and teachers, outline program content, and present administrators' reasons for not sponsoring a child care center.
