The "Magic" of Wireless Access in the Library
Balas, Janet L.
Computers in Libraries, v26 n3 p32-35 Mar 2006
It seems that the demand for public access computers grows exponentially every time a library network is expanded, making it impossible to ever have enough computers available for patrons. One solution that many libraries are implementing to ease the demand for public computer use is to offer wireless technology that allows patrons to bring in their own machines and to use the library's Internet connection. Wireless networking, though it may seem like magic, requires careful planning from the network design to the supporting policies. This column offers a description of several resources for librarians to explore if they are interested in providing wireless access in their facilities. (Contains 12 resources.)
