Promoting School Success. Third Edition
Lovitt, Thomas C.
PRO-ED, Inc.
Like its two predecessors, "Preventing School Dropouts" [C1991] and "Preventing School Failure" [C2000], this third edition is a book about teaching. Although primarily written for teachers, tutors and parents may also find this book helpful. It is a collection of carefully selected teaching techniques aimed at helping young adults learn important behaviors, skills, and attributes. The book comprises eleven chapters, all of which are related to, but exclusive of one another; they represent important aspects of education at elementary and secondary levels. The techniques are effective and have a substantial foundation. Up-to-date references, resources, and examples of technical devices are included for further support. The chapters include (1) Attendance; (2) Motivation; (3) Esteem and Attitude; (4) Management; (5) Peer-Mediated Instruction; (6) Basic Skills; (7) Study Skills; (8) Social Skills; (9) Homework; (10) Self-Management; and (11) Transition.
