Physical Discipline and Behavior Problems in African American, European American, and Hispanic Children: Emotional Support as a Moderator.
McLoyd, Vonnie C.; Smith, Julia
Journal of Marriage and Family, v64 n1 p40-53 Feb 2002
Data from the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth was used to assess whether maternal emotional support of a child moderates the relation between spanking and behavior problems. For each group (European Americans, African Americans, Hispanic Americans), spanking predicted an increase in the level of problem behavior over time. Maternal emotional support moderated the link between spanking and problem behavior. (Author/JDM)
