State Data Exchange: 40 Years and Still Counting. 2008-2009 Highlights
Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)
The Southern Regional Education Board-State Data Exchange is a one-of-a-kind regional program with 23 statewide higher education governing and coordinating board partners. The Data Exchange annually collects, compiles and publishes: (1) the most current and detailed comparative statistics on postsecondary education in the 16 SREB states; (2) summary statistics for groups of institutions based on size and the distribution of degrees and other awards conferred; and (3) valuable raw data by institution, available at www.sreb.org. This paper highlights the key results from the latest, in-depth SREB-State Data Exchange report, covering the 2008-09 academic year. There are three sets of comparisons: one for public four-year colleges and universities (institutions concentrating on bachelor's and advanced degrees); one for two-year colleges (institutions concentrating on associate's degrees and college transfer courses, although some bachelor's and some certificates and diplomas may be awarded); and one for technical institutes or colleges (institutions concentrating on certificates and diplomas, although some associate's degrees and college transfer courses may be offered). Additional detailed data elements are presented by institution and institutional category.
