Help! I Have Kids Who Can't Read in My World History Class!
McClanahan, Barbara
Preventing School Failure, v53 n2 p105-112 Win 2009
In today's inclusive classrooms, general and even many special education teachers often do not feel confident that they know or are using methods and strategies that researchers have shown to be effective in the general education setting for students who struggle with grade-level reading regardless of whether educators have identified them as learning disabled. The author aimed to (a) bring together strategies that researchers have investigated and shown to be effective in such classrooms and (b) give a brief description of these strategies. The author groups strategies into 3 categories--vocabulary, general strategy instruction, and study support--and provides examples of some of the more complex strategies. (Contains 4 figures.)
