Wally the Whale or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love AI
Kate Powell
Montessori Life: A Publication of the American Montessori Society, v35 n4 p38-41 2023-2024
In a span of about three days in the spring of 2023, the author's Instagram feed became inundated with mentions of artificial intelligence (AI), including Chat GPT, text-to-image models, and much more. She would turn on the radio and hear about the controversy surrounding AI, or look at her cousin's social media posts about the injustices of her artwork being sourced for AI without her consent. So she did what many people do in the face of something so significant and daunting: she ignored it. What she didn't realize is that shutting herself off to this new technology and pretending that it didn't, wouldn't, couldn't impact her negatively, meant that she also wasn't open to how it could support her students and herself in a positive way.
