Helping Children Navigate Global Tragedy
Lulka, Andrea
Montessori Life: A Publication of the American Montessori Society, v30 n1 p36-39 Spr 2018
Naming all the tragedies in the world is, sadly, an impossible task. When and how do teachers talk about tragic events in the classroom? This is a question every teacher has grappled with. Classrooms are beautiful, peaceful havens for students. And yet, students do not exist solely within these classrooms. Schools exist in the context of a world that is both very much the same and very, very different from the one Dr. Montessori saw as being in need of a peaceful revolution through education. This article shares resources that will help teachers and parents alike better support children through their experiences of tragedy and trauma. The article provides the title of each resource and a shortened URL for easy reference, along with a brief annotation of and excerpt from the resource.
