Cognitive Load Effects in a Primary-School Geometry Task.
Bobis, Janette; And Others
Learning and Instruction, v3 n1 p1-21 1993

Results of 4 experiments involving 125 fourth graders in Sydney (Australia) provide evidence for the inadequacy of conventionally formatted instructional materials and emphasize debilitating effects that extraneous cognitive load can have during initial instruction.
