Something so Right
Emery, Jill
Journal of Electronic Resources Librarianship, v22 n3-4 p88-92 2010
In August 2010, "Wired" magazine declared, "The Web is Dead. Long Live the Internet." Citing the rise of IPad & Smartphone sales and the rapid explosion of application-based software to run various programs on multiple computing devices--but especially mobile computing devices--people spend more hours than ever connected to or "on" the Internet but less and less time performing search functions on the Web. In light of this declaration, the author takes a quick environmental survey of what this could mean for librarians and publishers of the content purchased for libraries. Librarians and many of the institutions they work in are beginning to see benefits of providing content resources on tablets along with information literacy based on tablets instead of laptops and desktop computers.
