Kilgus, Lawrence; Force, Christina; Powell, Loreen M.
Journal of Applied Research for Business Instruction, v14 n1 2016
Teaching business communication can be a challenge as students often have preconceived notions about the usefulness of the course content. The level of instructor challenges include, but are not limited to unmotivated students, low student engagement, and poor class attendance. These challenges may be overcome with the use of web application tools. While the web applications have been helpful, the abundance of tools available may be overwhelming to instructors. Educators may find it difficult to understand how to utilize these tools within a business communication course. This paper explores and compares common free web applications. This paper includes 1) a brief overview of each free web application, 2) practical uses for each free web application, and 3) a matrix outlining the business communication feature for each free web application. This paper enables business communication instructors to make informed decisions when selecting free web application tools for their courses.
