Theological Education in and for Black and Brown Communities
Hernandez, Norlan Josue; Harris, Leon
Christian Higher Education, v21 n5 p358-376 2022
This paper uses a critical pedagogical lens for evaluating North American theological education within Black and Brown communities. A Latin American epistemology, exemplified in Freire's (2000) concept of "conscientização," is highlighted throughout. Four major pedagogical themes from Latin American Liberation Theology are applied to North American theological education to evaluate its contribution to social justice education: consciousness raising, liberation, praxis, and contextualization.
