Online Storytelling for Young Children during the Pandemic
Leung, Suzannie; Chiu, Jessica; Lam, Winnie
Childhood Education, v97 n4 p68-71 2021
COVID-19 pandemic has affected the health of people all over the world. Hong Kong closed schools for face-to-face instruction to minimize spread in February 2020. Schools started teaching via Zoom, a service that offers video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration. That same month, The Chinese University of Hong Kong provided training to equip student teachers with the knowledge and skills to support online teaching. One of the tutorials used focused on online storytelling techniques for kindergarten teachers. From March to May 2020, student teachers delivered a series of storytelling online sessions that were open to the public in Hong Kong and adopted e-storyteller strategies. In this article, the authors use a popular fairytale to facilitate discussion of these strategies.
