Omaha Public Schools Multiple Activities Programs: An Evaluation. ESEA Title I, September 1973 to June 1974.
Texley, Lloyd C.
This 1965 Elementary Secondary Education Act Title I Evaluation Report illustrates a small part of the continued effort of the Omaha Public Schools to meet the needs of educationally disadvantaged children. The multiple activities outlined in the 1973-74 Title I Proposal were designed for two purposes. First, they were to supplement the instructional program for educationally disadvantaged children by developing a curriculum and techniques, specifically in reading, which would raise their achievement level commensurate with their ability. Second, they would support this program with the type of services needed to make it successful. It was determined that the High Intensity Learning Centers for Reading for grades 3 through 12 continued to provide a sound approach for meeting the individual reading needs of children. Reading aides continued to work with primary teachers to help in meeting the reading problems of children in grades one through three. The Individualized Study Center for grades 7 through 9 served students who were not able to function in the regular school program by providing individual instruction and direction for their future. All other activities in the Title I program were directed toward providing supportive services for children in Title I instructional programs. (Author/JM)
