PAL[R] Services Being Measured through Scientifically-Based Evaluation Process
Perspectives in Peer Programs, v20 n3 p130-151 Spr-Sum 2007
In January 2006, PAL[R] Peer Assistance and Leadership, a Promising Prevention Program of Workers Assistance Program, Inc. (WAP), received a $30,000 grant from the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) in order to be scientifically-evaluated on the outcomes and effectiveness of its programs and services. According to the grant, the evaluation process must be implemented and appraised by a third-party administrator and must meet the standards of the National Registry of Evidence-Based Programs and Practices (NREPP). Measurable outcomes as a result of the evaluation process will focus on risk and protective factors of PAL[R] mentees: incidents of discipline infractions on school campuses; and the level of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and perceptions of students toward violence and drug use. The evaluation will also measure the effectiveness of teacher training received through PAL[R] Services to implement programs; successful program implementation; and program impact on students and the community.
