The study, based on a survey of agricultural industry in Hawaii, was conducted to obtain current job task information to be used as the basis for curriculum improvement in agricultural technology and ornamental horticulture. It determines the kinds and frequency of job skills and the importance of the accompanying knowledge required. A checklist of job tasks related to agricultural industry was developed along with identified accompanying knowledge. Data were collected on the job tasks being performed, frequency of performance, and an indication of the accompanying knowledge. Personnel from 15 firms were interviewed, and their responses to items on the checklist were recorded. The findings of the study indicate the importance of the following: management activities in agricultural enterprise; equipment usage, maintenance, and repairs; government regulations and policies; agricultural experimentation and research; and processing and marketing of agricultural commodities. Recommendations for the formulation of an agricultural technology and ornamental horticulture curriculum are listed. The major part of the document contains composite summaries of the collected data and a discussion of specific findings for crop and livestock production, nursery and allied services, and landscaping and allied services.
