A Day at the Museum
Curriculum Review, v46 n9 p15 May 2007
Field trips are not just for the school year. End the year right by encouraging parents and caregivers to continue working children's brains throughout the summer months. For example, the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) recommends taking children of all ages--preschoolers, children, tweens and teens--to museums. Whether it is a two-hour trip within the hometown or a stop at a museum during a family vacation, children can absorb quite a bit through the many hands-on learning activities and exhibits provided by most museums. Many large cities have art, science and history museums. Some even have smaller children's museums specifically designed for hands-on play and interaction. This article provides suggestions to help make the most of museum visits with children of all ages.
