Designed to develop in the student skills in all of the preparatory functions of the graphic communications industry, this student guide covers copy preparation, art preparation, typography, camera, stripping, production management, and forms design, preparation, and analysis. In addition to the skills areas, material is included on the history of graphic communications, proper safety procedures, equipment maintenance and housekeeping, and opportunity to study the interrelationship of the various graphic communications specializations. Material is presented in eight units, each containing objectives, information (text), references, and assignments or activities to perform. Unit headings are as follows: (1) Exploring Graphic Communications, (2) Shop Rules and Safety, (3) History and Technical Background, (4) Work Flow in a Modern Shop, (5) Typography, (6) Copyfitting, (7) CompuWriter I, (8) IBM Selectric Composer, (9) Comp/Set, and (10) Proofreading.
