Vocational Education Success Stories: Serving Special Populations.
Illinois State Council on Vocational Education, Springfield.
This publication reports on the Illinois Council on Vocational Education's (ICoVE) recognition program. The program was designed to (1) commend achievement in vocational education; (2) collect information about vocational education and evaluate its success; (3) provide a resource guide of successful vocational education programs and activities; (4) assist the council in partial fulfillment of its responsibilities; and (5) report ICoVE's recommendations to the Governor and the State Board of Education. The publication profiles 10 vocational education programs that have been especially successful in serving special populations. Included in the stories are programs for nursing assistant training, a food service program for students with developmental disabilities, programs for school dropouts, welding technology, a college special services center, truck driver training, vocational education for former special education students, exploring engineering for females and minorities, and a community classroom project. The document includes statistics on Illinois targeted programs; explanation of the criteria for program selections; and findings, conclusions, and recommendations, in addition to the project descriptions.
