Flewellen, William C., Jr.
Drawing from site visits to 39 public and private colleges in Massachusetts, this report presents an evaluation of college programs in business administration and management and recommendations for improvement. Section 1 provides an overview of the statewide study and its findings. After identifying the colleges visited and the members of the visitation teams, this section: (1) summarizes concerns specific to community college, state college, and university programs; (2) compares private and public programs with respect to accreditation status, student quality, and adequacy of faculty; (3) offers financial data on dollars of instructional budget per full-time equivalent (FTE) faculty and FTE student, share of workload versus share of funds, FTE faculty/secretary ratio, tuition, and tuition and dollars of instructional budget per FTE student; (4) offers enrollment projections; and (5) presents recommendations for community colleges, state colleges, and universities. Section 2 looks at the business administration/management programs in community colleges, focusing on students, courses, faculty, resources, facilities, overall concerns, major problems, and recommendations. Section 3 examines state college programs in terms of courses, students, faculty, library and facility resources, placement, curriculum, management and leadership, measures of adequacy of the number of faculty, measures of quality and scholarly activity, measures of funding, and recommendations. In section 4, university programs are assessed, covering curriculum, students, faculty, financial support, library resources, placement, and recommendations. Finally, an employment prospectus for program graduates is presented. A summary of accreditation standards is appended. (RO)
