Building an Evaluation Framework for a Competency-Based Graduate Program at the University Of Southern Mississippi

This article describes an ongoing project to build a comprehensive evaluation framework for the competency-based Master of Science in Workforce Training and Development (MSWTD) program at The University of Southern Mississippi (USM). First, it discusses some trends and issues in evaluating the performance of higher education programs in the United States. Second, it looks at the approach to evaluating the MSWTD program as an example of how to use a proven evaluation framework for ensuring that graduates are equipped with the necessary competencies for dynamic careers in workplace learning and performance (WLP) improvement. Third, it shares some lessons learned during the first phase of the evaluation project and some plans for the future application of the evaluation strategy. (Contains 4 tables.)
