Science for the Elementary School. Third Edition.
Victor, Edward
This book has been revised to reflect changes that have taken place in elementary science and to present the latest thinking and philosophy for teaching science in the elementary school. The book is intended to be useful for both prospective and experienced teachers to organize and conduct meaningful science learning experiences in the elementary school. Part One of the book is concerned with the teaching of science; Part Two contains science content, learning activities, and bibliography for the teacher. Theories of child development psychologists, especially Piaget, Bruner, and Gagne, are presented. Science content is presented in outline form. The newer classification schemes for living things are included. Measurements are stated in the metric system with the equivalent English units of measurement included. Learning activities are presented in terms of behavioral objectives. A list of references for obtaining science equipment, materials, and printed matter, as well as an updated bibliography, are included. (Author/EB)
