The Impact of Mentoring on Post-Secondary Success of Adult Education Graduates
Kaltenbaugh, Jane Kitzer
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University (Delaware)
Earning a bachelor's degree or a post-secondary certificate can have a significant impact on a person's quality of life and financial future; however, statistics show that many high school graduates who continue to post-secondary studies do not complete their degree or certification. Adult education students (non-traditional students) are particularly at risk for not pursuing or finishing post-secondary credentials. To address this problem, some institutions have developed programs to provide mentoring services for these students to support them through the post-secondary transition. One such program was developed at an adult education high school in central Delaware and was studied to determine its impact on the post-secondary goals of its adult education graduates. The study used outcome data, surveys, and interviews to examine the program's impact on students enrolling in college or career training and completing post-secondary goals during the first year after graduation.
