Basic Education Curriculum Reform in Rural China: Achievements, Problems, and Solutions
Wang, Jiayi; Zhao, Zhichun
Chinese Education and Society, v44 n6 p36-46 Nov-Dec 2011
The latest wave of basic education curriculum reform, carried out over the past ten years, has achieved significant results and promoted the development of rural education. There are still some problems in the reform of basic education in rural areas, however, such as a serious shortage of funds for rural school curriculum reform, the continuing weakness of rural primary and secondary school teacher resources, and an urgent need to strengthen the integration of information technology and curriculum. At present, it is necessary to promote the balanced development of rural basic education curriculum reform, strengthen the government's support for curriculum reform in rural areas, guarantee curriculum reform funding by including it in fiscal budgeting, revise curriculum standards to enhance the adaptability of the new curriculum to rural schools, and develop instructional materials adapted to the realities of rural primary and secondary schools.
