This handbook provides information on 31 software programs designed to instruct students with attention disorders in individual and group settings. The most successful applications of instructional software are identified, and six broad categories of instructional software are discussed. Twenty-one strategies for teaching students with attention disorders are considered, along with common features of computer-assisted instruction which can assist in implementing each of the strategies. Seven problem areas to avoid in using instructional software with this population are also addressed. Case studies of three students who used instructional software at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels are included. Descriptions of the 31 instructional software programs provide: age or grade equivalent; subject; kind of software; manufacturer; platform (e.g., Macintosh, IBM, Apple); hardware needed; date of publication; retail cost; program content; review of the program, including strengths and weaknesses and a rating for use with students with attention deficit disorders; and ratings on specific software evaluation criteria.
