Book Bag Buddies
Madden, Angie; Townsend, J. Scott; Green, Jennifer
Science and Children, v49 n3 p42-47 Nov 2011
Children love to learn about new topics and share what they have discovered with their teachers, families, and friends. The authors designed the "Book Bag Buddies" project to give their third-grade students a chance to channel their enthusiasm and research from science investigations into writing. In this creative project, students integrated science content and language arts by using their "Book Bag Buddies"--their favorite stuffed animals--as main characters in fictional science stories. In these stories, students selected topics that were inspired by their own interests or the science research and inquiry-based units they had participated in throughout the school year. Students used their fictional science stories as vehicles to share the science content with their readers in an entertaining way. (Contains 4 figures and 13 resources.)
