Career Education Program for the Talented. Final Report.
Allegheny Intermediate Unit, Pittsburgh, PA.
Two hundred and fifty talented children in grades 4-9 from suburban school districts in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, participated in the pilot program, Career Education Program for the Talented (CEPT). Practicing professional artists discussed their careers at monthly Saturday workshops which focused on the incorporation of the arts (music, art, creative writing, dance, drama, and media) into work situations (advertising, entertainment, education, business and law, government, psychology and mental health, religion and science, and communications). After the professionals demonstrated materials and techniques used in their jobs, students put this information into practice in follow-up activities. Other program activities involved a coordinator evaluation of the presentations, parent participation and survey, development and evaluation of a curriculum packet (available separately as ED 177 778) and curriculum information packet for student orientation, pre- and post-testing of student career knowledge, student evaluation of the workshops, and development and administration of a student career awareness checklist. (Appendixes, amounting to over one-half of the report, include the forms and results of the following: coordinators' logs, parent questionnaire, career knowledge survey, career information packet, career awareness checklist, and demographic questionnaire. The career information packet is also provided.) (YLB)
