Students Seeking Access to Four-Year Institutions: Community College Transfers [Background Information].

This publication provides background information for a hearing by the California Senate Select Committee on Higher Education and Outreach on December 3, 1997. The Introduction presents the Committee announcement, press release, agenda, information about transfer efforts in California, facts and figures about the community colleges, and the text of Senate Constitutional Amendment 7. Section II discusses the California Postsecondary Education Commission, providing the Progress Report on the Community College Transfer Function. Section III is presented by the California Community College Chancellor's office, and looks at trends important to the colleges and discusses transfer centers. Section IV is an issue of the California State University's newsletter for counselors, which addresses the issue of continuing commitment to transfer. Section V describes the University of California transfer admission programs at each of the campuses. Section VI presents the Transfer Student Handbook from the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities. Section VII provides samples of transfer agreements between the community colleges and the University of California and the California State University systems. Section VIII describes ASSIST, a computer software program and database of transfer-related information. Section IX discusses the Transferring Experience, presenting the Oxnard Community College Study on Student Transfer by Aurora de la Selva.
