Current Issues in Teacher Education: An Interview with Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond

Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond is the Charles E. Ducommun Professor of Education Emeritus at the Stanford Graduate School of Education at Stanford University. She is former president of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and member of the National Academy of Education and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She also served as a leader of President Obama's education transition team. Her more than 500 publications include research reports, articles, books, and book chapters. Additionally she founded the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education in 2008 and helped to redesign the Stanford Teacher Education program. More recently, she has become the president and chief executive officer of the Learning Policy Institute (2015). Among the topics Darling-Hammond is asked to discuss in this interview are: her new role as president of the Learning Policy Institute and faculty director of the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education; examples of how she thinks curriculum revision, or different mentoring models, might be used to help prepare faculty in teacher education; what primarily female or female identified teachers and teacher educators can do to help one another get better traction on moving forward the better models for teacher education; and undocumented students within the country.
