Integer Operations Using a Whiteboard
Andrews, Delise R.
Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, v16 n8 p474-479 Apr 2011
Interactive whiteboards are somewhat unimpressive at first and look like the whiteboards that already hang on the walls of many classrooms. However, integrating interactive whiteboard technology in a unit on adding and subtracting integers enhances student engagement and understanding. In this article, the author describes how she used an interactive whiteboard while working with a group of fifth-grade students exploring how to add and subtract integers. The interactive whiteboard was used to model activities, record math work, and demonstrate the use of the National Library of Virtual Manipulatives Web site. (Contains 1 figure.)
