Drama and Theatre in Education: The Research of Practice, the Practice of Research. Papers Originally Presented at the International Drama in Education Research Institute (2nd, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, July 3-8, 1997).
Saxton, Juliana, Ed.; Miller, Carole, Ed.
This collection of papers represents the thinking of distinguished research practitioners of drama and theatre education, who presented keynotes and master classes at the second International Drama in Education Research Institute, held in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, in 1997. They provide a diversity of approaches to classroom drama and to the kinds of unique research that each contributor brings to his or her own practice. The writing is accessible and challenges readers to examine their own practice. The text provides the kinds of support that can strengthen the voices of those who advocate for the discipline. The papers are: (1) "Research Conversations: Visible Pedagogies/Generous Pedagogies" (Madeleine Grumet); (2) "Research and Practice from the Inside Out" (David Booth); (3) "Drama from Intra-Subjective Monologues and Narratives of Self" (John Hughes and Di Johnson); (4) "The Poetic Artistry of Cecily O'Neill" (Pam Scheurer); (5) "Coq au Vin and Chicken Marengo: Classic Recipes and Inspired Creations" (Barbara Hill and Warwick Dobson); (6) "Drama as a Way of Knowing" (Betty Jane Wagner); (7) "Beyond the Systematic and Rigorous" (Philip Taylor); (8) "'Maybe Someday, if I'm Famous...': An Ethnographic Performance Text" (Johnny Saldana); (9) "The Drama in Research & Articulating Dynamics: A Unique Theatre" (Roslyn Arnold); (10) "A Conceptual Framework for Classroom Acting Behaviour" (Gavin Bolton); (11) "Three Theatres Waiting: Architectural Space and Performance Traditions" (Jonothan Neelands); and (12) "Lurching Out of the Familiar" (Carole Miller and Juliana Saxton).
