Ethical Concerns: Negotiating Truth and Trust
McGarvey, Lynn M.; Sterenberg, Gladys
For the Learning of Mathematics, v29 n1 p35-39 2009
Few studies in mathematics education explicitly address ethical issues arising from student interactions. The ethical concerns held by students are expressed in their words, actions, and interactions. The purpose of this article is to explore the ethical nature of copying as it arises in a mathematics classroom. We investigate the basis for determining ethical behaviour, consider the relationship between truth and trust, and explore how ethical concerns can be addressed pedagogically.
