This report highlights efforts by Time Warner personnel to strengthen community connections through various programs and services aimed at supporting: education, the arts, volunteerism, diversity, and business-community action. The report is divided into sections focusing on each of these areas. The first section, Education, describes programs aimed at improving reading, writing and technology skills, as well as programs to empower teachers. Cable television in the classroom, student news bureaus, and scholarships and internships are also discussed, and a list of schools that Time Warner supports is included. Time Warner's efforts in the performing arts are then detailed; several partnership projects are noted. The report then focuses on volunteerism, highlighting employee teamwork, volunteer project grants for employees, and the Andrew Heiskell Community Service Award for Time Warner employees. A section focusing on diversity provides a table of percentages of women and minorities employed at the company for years 1996-1998, and discusses efforts at closing opportunity and cultural gaps, encouraging minority business development, and celebrating accomplishments of African Americans.
