Feminist Pedagogy Revisited
Welch, Penny
LATISS: Learning and Teaching in the Social Sciences, v3 n3 p171-199 Apr 2007
This article (re)introduces readers to some of the extensive literature written in English on the theory and practice of feminist pedagogy in higher education. Whether feminist pedagogy is conceived of as a strand of critical pedagogy, a particular variant of student-centred teaching, or a vital dimension of the Women's Studies project, its impact to date on UK writings about learning and teaching in higher education has been limited. Today, when equality and diversity are high on institutional agendas, yet many features of the UK higher education system make teaching for social justice difficult, feminist approaches to learning and teaching deserve greater attention and can assist in resolving some of the dilemmas faced by educators in universities and colleges of higher education.
